The Carbon High FFA group is excited to be hosting a Family Food Night on Friday, November 8 at 6:00 pm at Carbon High School. This event is open to all members of the community who will be able to enjoy several demonstrations from landscaping to food labeling.
“We’re going to start with everybody in a general session and that’s going to cover our basic health facts, some community facts and then we’re going to dive into some breakout sessions and you get to pick two of our five breakout sessions,” said FFA President, Jace Draper. Each of the presentations will last approximately 20-25 minutes where guests will receive important information on each of the given subjects.
The breakout sessions that will be offered on this evening are explained by Draper, “Those are Sustainable Landscapes, making your landscape work for you and the environment; Gardening, maximizing your harvest, tips on planting and harvesting; Preserving the Harvest, demonstrations on canning, pickling & preserving; Food Labeling, what to know GMSs, gluten and added hormones; and Backyard Chickens, raising chickens as a hobby, safety net and small business.” The workshops will be offered by Carbon FFA Members, Carbon High Faculty and other guest presenters.
Parents who wish to attend may utilize the child care service being offered during the event. “If you have a young kid that won’t want to sit and listen about how to pickle your beets, they can go in a learn about Vet Sci or where your food comes from in a fun educational way for them and their parents can still get the best learning experience and then everyone gets to meet up after for a healthy dinner,” explained Draper. The cost for the dinner is $5.00 per person. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Carbon FFA program.
