The Emery Spartans moved to 2-0 on the young basketball season with a dominating 83-49 victory over the American Heritage Academy Patriots Tuesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.
Led by senior Brax Jensen’s career-high 33-points, the Spartans outscored the Patriots in each of the four quarters. Holding a 37-23 lead at the break, Emery unleashed a 16-1 run in the third quarter to pull away for good.
After posting 16 points through the first two quarters, Jensen scored 17 in the second half despite playing only part of the fourth quarter. Adding six assists to the stat sheet, American Heritage had no answer for the senior’s offensive output.
Fellow senior Kyler Wilstead once again reached double-figures in points, notching 13 to go along with eight rebounds. Justin Rasmussen and Seth Justice each contributed nine, while Riggs Griffin finished with six.
American Heritage junior big Paora Winitana led the Patriots with 31 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. Ian Black chipped in with nine and Connor McKee scored five as the team dipped to 2-1 on the season.
After securing wins in their first two games of the season, the Spartans will now take the rest of the week off. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, Emery will travel to meet the Delta Rabbits on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
