The USU-Eastern Theatre Department second performance of the year is entitled These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich. The play will take place on the USU Eastern Campus at 7:30 pm, with the box office opening at 7:00 pm.

“These Shining Lives is about the radium girls; these were woman in the 1920s/1930s who painted watches using a radium compound powder and radium was poison so essentially consuming it and breathing in the powder throughout their days and it eventually killed them but they fought back against the company and frankly, the government and they won their case and they changed this country because of it,” said Cast Member CheyAnn Needles. The production is directed by Morgan Lund and based on the true story of four women who worked in the watch factory in Ottawa, Illinois.

“I believe people need to see These Shining Lives because it is something, I think a lot of people in the area, our area especially can relate to. A lot of people especially with the mines and other companies can feel and vouch for people that have worked for years in a company and then feel neglected by said company,” stated Stage Manager Christopher Vlamakis. The play will run December 5 through December 7, with the final week taking place December 12 through 14 in the Peterson Black Box Theatre located in the Central Instruction Building.

The cost is $12.00 for adults, $9.00 for senior citizens, $7.00 for USU-E faculty and staff, $5.00 for children and $3.00 for USU-Eastern students with their current student ID. No children under the age of six years old will be admitted.
