The Emery Lady Spartans were unable to protect a double-digit fourth quarter lead in an eventual 46-43 loss in overtime to the 5A Springville Red Devils Tuesday night on the road.
Outscoring Springville 16-4 in the first quarter, Emery held a 12-point at half time and going into the final stanza. Springville outscored the Lady Spartans 17-5 to force overtime and eventually win the game.
Kiri Cook led the Lady Spartans with 13 points as the team dropped to 3-2 on the season. Hailey Allred chipped in with 11 points and Baylee Jacobson contributed 10.
Free throws were once again an issue for Emery as the team finished just 7-12 at the charity stripe. Springville ended 5-8, but converted three more field goals for the contest.
Addi Johnson, Ahna Hullinger and Lauryn Deede all scored 10 points to pace the Red Devils. Kayla Jackson added nine to close out a balanced effort.
Emery will have an opportunity to bounce back when they return to the court on Thursday with a home contest against Salem Hills. The Lady Spartans will then travel on the road Friday for a road tilt against South Summit.
