Brax Jensen poured in a game-high 24 points as the Emery Spartans cruised to a 90-57 victory over the Union Cougars Tuesday night in Roosevelt.
Playing for the second time in two days, the Spartans showed no signs of fatigue as they carried a 24-9 lead into the second quarter. The offense continued to soar as it surpassed the 20-point mark in each of the first three quarters.
Senior Jordan Ekker complimented Jensen’s scoring output with 22 points of his each. Both Ekker and Jensen knocked down five three-point tries, accounting for 46 of the team’s 90 points.
The win marks the second straight for the Spartans, while improving the team’s record to 4-1 in the non-region portion of the schedule.
Justin Rasmussen continued his consistent play on both sides of the ball as he chipped in with 11 points. Seth Justice reached double-figures for the first time this season as contributed 10 points.
Nine different Emery players scored at least two points in the team’s highest scoring game of the year. The Spartans have notched 80 or more points in three of the five games played this season.
Keaston Young led the Cougars with 16 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Jaden Gardner finished with nine points and Boone Lathem scored seven. The loss dips Union to 0-3 on the season.
The Spartans will now shift their focus to Friday’s varsity match up with the Juab Wasps at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale. Juab is currently 2-4 on the season after falling to Payson Tuesday night.
