It’s the holiday season and many folks are busily preparing for the upcoming Christmas holiday with lots of shopping but it is important to remember to protect yourself and your belongings when it comes to leaving gifts in your vehicle.

“The holiday season is a great time of the year, get out and enjoy the community, enjoy the festivities but that doesn’t mean we let our guard down. Don’t become an easy victim. Make sure you lock your vehicle when you leave your stuff parked. Because you know how we get, we get out Christmas shopping, we’re at the mall, we’re here, there, we’re everywhere and pretty soon we have a car full of goodies and you know maybe kind of don’t leave that stuff visible, kind of hide your valuable things and lock your vehicle,” stated Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. The safest place that individuals can keep their items is locked up in the trunk of their vehicle.

Another concern during the holiday is having packages delivered to your home when you are not there. “Be a smart consumer and make sure if you have packages delivered that someone is there to get them or a neighbor is there or you deliver them to your place of work or someplace else,” said Sheriff Wood. Another great idea to keep your packages safe is to monitor your notifications or use in-store pickup.

It is unfortunate that during the holiday telephone scams or scams in general peak. “Don’t give out any information and honestly if you have questions get a hold of your banking institution or your local police department, sheriff’s office – we’ll be happy to look into these matters,” said Sheriff Wood. Folks will find most of the time that their lending institutions are on top of the latest scams going around.
