The Lady Spartans found themselves in a very strange place on Tuesday night, losing at The Spartan Center. The Judge Memorial Bulldogs came out firing early and carried that intensity to a 62-36 win.
The Spartans started out in a six point hole at the end of the first quarter, that deficit would grow to 18 points at the half and would ultimately finish with a 26 point loss. This is Emery’s largest margin of defeat since they lost 62-34 to Richfield in November of 2015.
Judge Memorial sits at 6-1 this season and is in second place in Region 13. They were led in this game by Teya Sidberry with 22 points to go with her five rebounds, three assists and five steals. Mia Tarver would add 14 points, two rebounds and two steals. Emily Malouf dropped eight points to go with 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
For the Spartans it was Baylee Jacobson with 16 points, five rebounds and one steal. Bethany Justice went for 10 points and six rebounds and Hailey Allred had seven points, seven rebounds and one assist.
Emery sits at 4-4 this season, the four losses are more than they have had in the last three seasons combined. On Thursday the initial RPI rankings will come out, and that will give the Spartans some idea as to where they stack up against the rest of the 3A field. They will play one more game at home before the holiday break. When they return it will be time for Region play which begins on January 7, when they will welcome Richfield to the Spartan Center.
Next up is an early morning game this Friday against North Sanpete in Castle Dale. Tip-off is set for 11:30.
