The Annual Shop with a Cop event took place on Saturday, December 21 where over 40 kids were given the opportunity to go shopping with local law enforcement officers. The locally selected children in the Castle Country area were given a free breakfast from McDonalds, followed by a patrol car shuttle to Walmart to do some serious holiday shopping.
“A lot of times we do coordinate with United Way for most of the time but a lot of times as officers we’re responding to a lot of calls every year, throughout the year our officers are right on the front lines and they’re seeing families and they’re seeing kids who this is something that can benefit them in a huge way,” said Program Coordinator, Price PD Sgt. Kelly Maynes. Not only are officers submitting names to the program but the Shop with A Cop program works closely with Department of Children & Family Services and the Carbon County Family Support Center and Children’s Justice Center.
After the children enjoyed their breakfast, they loaded up in the various patrol cars to be shuttled to the local Walmart. “Walmart is one of our huge sponsors with it, they have a Community Grant they give us every year that we are able to get half the funds for it. We have another organization out of Salt Lake called the Utah Police Civilian Association who matches what Walmart gives us and without those two we wouldn’t be able to do it, it’s a huge thing,” stated Sgt. Kelly Maynes. The children are paired up with an officer as they make their way around the store to do some holiday shopping.
Law enforcement officers from Helper, Price, Wellington, East Carbon, Sheriff’s Department and Highway Patrol participate every year and do such an amazing job working alongside the youngest members of the community. Other proud sponsors that made this event a huge success is McDonalds, Tuscan Event Center and Bethel 3 Jobs Daughters.
The Price City Police Department would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
