The Emery Spartan wrestling squad competed in the 3A duels at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield on January 3-4. Each participant wrestled in 10 matches over the two day period and when the dust settled the Spartans found themselves in third place in Pool B.

This was Emery’s first match since the the UHSAA moratorium and the first time they had competed since the Christmas Clash on December 20-21.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Bryar Meccariello who went 10-0 in the 152 pound weight classification. He entered the tournament as the as one of the top wrestlers in the state and definitely showed why.  At the conclusion of the tournament he was awarded top 3A wrestler 138 pound class and above.

Braden Howard would also go 10-0 in the 220 pound weight class. Hayes Dalton would go through the weekend only dropping one match to finish 9-1.

Up next for the Spartans is a duel with North Sanpete in Castle Dale at the Spartan Center.
