The Emery Spartans continued the wrestling season with a 48-19 victory over the North Sanpete Hawks in a home dual at the Spartan Center Wednesday night in Castle Dale.

Winning nine of the 14 varsity matches the Spartans dominated the competition with four wins by pin. The result was welcomed by the coaching staff after a weekend of mix results at the 3A Duels in Richfield.

“They wrestled really well in the tight spots and came through for us,” said head coach Kirk Christiansen. “The boys are really starting to peak. We had a few duels that we lost in Richfield by a few points and I think that motivated the boys.”

The Spartans will now prepare for a weekend tournament in Gunnison that could feature up to 10 single matches per participant. Only four events remain on the season before the team heads to the Divisional Tournament, two weeks before the State Tournament on Feb. 14 and 15.
