Green River and Pinnacle met for the first time this season on the Panthers home floor in Price on Tuesday evening. The Pirates came out in the first quarter only allowing eight points from Pinnacle outscoring them 43-21 in the first half. The second half was a repeat of the first and Green River would advance to 9-4 on the season with the 80-40 victory.

Green River held Pinnacle to 35% shooting and only allowed single digit scoring in two of the four quarters in the game. The win marks the fifth in the last six games for the Pirates who currently sit at 2-0 in region play and # 9 in the 1A State RPI.

Rad Hughes led all scorers in the game with a season high 33 points, well over his 17.1 season average. Axel Anguiano would add 12 and Weston Hatfield 11 in the win.

Pinnacle will slip to 7-10 and 0-1 in region play. The Panthers have lost three out of five and are now #14 in RPI. With upcoming games against Navajo Mountain, Whitehorse and Monument Valley before they face Green River again, they could use those games to close the gap a bit.

The Panthers were led by Mikey Vigil who scored 13 points. Dominic Gutierrez scored nine and Benjamin Scott and Christian Winder both chipped in with seven points each.

Both teams will return to the hardwood this week as Green River will face Wayne High School on the road on Friday, they will then return home on January 22 to take on Grand in a non-region tilt.

The Panthers will host Navajo Mountain on Friday and then travel to Whitehorse on the 24 of January.
