The Carbon Dinos played host to the Region 12 Championship swim meet, playing host to six other schools Thursday afternoon at the Desert Wave Pool in Price.

Accumulating 408 points, the defending 3A State Champion Lady Dinos finished second place overall. Emery earned the top spot with 467 points. Richfield, Grand and Gunnison rounded out the top five.

The Carbon boy’s found success with depth scoring as they ended with 235 points in fourth place. Richfield claimed the top spot with 482 points, followed by Emery and Grand. Gunnison, South Sevier and North Sevier rounded out the field of seven.

The 200 yard medley relay team consisting of Nicole Swasey, Tyrca Jaramillo, Sofia Crompton and Emily Jespersen earned first place and set a new Carbon High School record with a time of 2:02.4.  While the relay win would be the only top finish of the meet, the team managed massive depth scoring to remain in contention at the top of the leader-board.

Senior Kacee Barrett delivered an outstanding performance with a second place finish in the 100 and 200 yard free. Barrett also teamed up with Thalyn Lyman, Crompton and Haylie Powell to finish second in the 200 yard free relay.

Swasey and Jaramillo added to Carbon’s point total as they finished second and third respectively in the 200 yard IM. Swasey finished in 2:37.17, while Jaramillo was right behind at 2:37.73. Jaramillo later finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Crompton added a second place finish in the 100 yard fly with a final time of 1:08.96. Ashlin Baker and Emily Jespersen ended second and third in the 500 yard free.

Camden Chamberlain posted a second place nod in the 200 yard free. Finishing with a time of 2:07.23, Chamberlain equaled the top individual finish for the boy’s team.

Gabe Ibanez delivered a second place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:42.02. Chamberlain was right behind in third at 5:50.44.

With the region portion of the schedule now complete, the Dinos will shift their focus to the 3A State Championship Meet on Feb. 7 and 8 in Provo at Brigham Young University.
