Price City wants to remind the community that beginning April 1, the U.S. Census will be conducted within the United States. City officials want to remind folks about the importance of participating in the census count.

“This census if very important that what you just said, there was over $675 billion spent on the federal programs that are available to the state and rural areas and that includes roads, hospitals and different programs that are available through the federal assistance and stuff and so it’s really important that we have that number,” explained Price City Council Member, Rick Davis. Both the Carbon School District and USU Eastern are working on a program to help get the information out about the upcoming census count.

There are some upcoming dates in March that folks should keep in mind. “What you’re going to receive or should receive about 95 percent of the household will receive an invitation to fill out the questionnaire and that will be sent out between March 12 and March 20. Now if you don’t fill that out at that particular time, then, of course, you’re going to receive a reminder and so forth and if you can’t do it and it doesn’t come in, maybe a census taker will come to your house to help you fill out the questionnaire,” said Davis. There are several different ways to submit your census information either by paper form, on-line, over the telephone or in-person with a census worker.

The information that the census is inquiring about is very minimal but very important. “The information that is being given is just asking for how many people are in the household, stuff like this, they’re not asking for driver’s license or they’re not asking for social security number, nothing like that – its exactly what it says, we’re looking for a census count,” stated Davis. The Census Bureau is expected to announce the new population counts by December 31, 2020.
