The Utah State University Eastern Basketball squads are traveling to Twin Falls Idaho this weekend to take part in the NJCAA Region 18 tournament being held by host school College of Southern Idaho.
The USU Eastern men will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed going 13-15 overall this season. They will take on the Colorado Northwestern Spartans at 7:30 pm on Thursday February 27. These two teams have faced off three times this season with USU Eastern winning all three contests. In the most recent meeting on February 15, USU Eastern came away with the 87-71 victory on the Spartans home floor. The Eagles were led by Christian Haffner with 23 points.
A victory in the game on Thursday will advance the Eagles to Friday where they will face the No. 1 seeded Salt Lake Community College Bruins. The Bruins have a 26-4 record going a perfect 12-0 in conference play. USU Eastern faced the Bruins three times on the season coming away 0-3. Every game was competitive, and when tournament time rolls around anything can happen.
The Lady Eagles will enter as the No. 2 seed with a 9-3 record and are co-champions of the Scenic West Athletic Conference. They will face-off with the host school the College of Southern Idaho on Friday at 5:30 pm.
USU Eastern went 2-1 on the season against CSI, in their last meeting on February 20 the Eagles of CSI would take the 63-55 victory. USU Eastern was led by Margarett Otuafi with 14 points in the loss.
If they get past CSI, the Lady Eagles will will face the winner of the match-up between Salt Lake Community College and Snow College/Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at 5 pm.
