Our strong, courageous, sweet Mother Patty Lynne returned home to her Savior’s arms on Sunday, March 8, 2020 surrounded by her family in Orem, UT. Mom was born on June 26, 1953 in Price, Utah to James William and Ellen Bentley Bates. Mom was the oldest of six children. She loved and adored her siblings. They were her dearest friends and she was constant in their lives.

Growing up mom had a love for horses. She enjoyed training and riding. She was part of the Carbon High Rodeo Club. She participated in the county rodeo and competed enthusiastically in barrel racing. She had a keen sense of knowing how to communicate with her horses, much like a horse whisperer.

Mom attended LDS Business College and her favorite job was working at the Church Office Building.

Mom married Marvin August White on September 23, 1972 in the Provo LDS Temple. They later divorced. Together they had 5 children. Her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her days. During her life she watched her posterity blossom into the most important part of her life. Mom never forgot any of her kids or grandkids birthday’s. Even though she couldn’t give a lot you could always count on a card with a ten dollar bill in the mailbox.

Mom could make anybody laugh. She left this earth with her great sense of humor. You could always find mom with a large Diet Pepsi in one hand and her cell phone in the other. Receiving two or three phone calls a day from her were expected. Mom loved John Wayne, Donny Osmond, and Elvis Presley. On any given day you could catch her watching Bonanza, the Utah Jazz or the Hallmark Channel. Everyone loved mom. Friends were always in and out of our home and they always felt comfortable because of her. Mom was a people person.

She had a love for genealogy. Many hours were spent researching and finding family names. She had a strong abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and mind.

Mom is survived by her children Jenny (Tim) Needles Lehi UT; Makette Morgan Helper, UT; Rachel (Cody) Wagner Santaquin, UT; Matthew White Wellington, UT; Daniel (Tanya) White Nampa, ID. Siblings- Bill (Alisa) Bates Tokyo, Japan; Carol (David) Daniels Willard, UT; Kelley (Kerry) Jensen Price, UT; Leslie (Lyle) Nielson Blanding, UT; Steven (Ann) Bates West Point, UT. 21 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and another on the way.

Preceded in death by her parents Jim and Ellen Bates who were waiting eagerly to welcome her home.
