The local 4-H organization is a wonderful way for children in the area to keep busy while on school dismissal. Parents can find many online activities that can be done at home with their children.
“On our Facebook page, we try to on Mondays and Wednesdays to have activities for kids 8 years old and up. So then on Thursdays we have Cloverbuds that is for ages 5 through 7 and they are posted on those days, we try to do them weekly and its really kind of been fun to see the reaction we get,” said Program Director, DeLayna Barr. The 4-H online activities can be found on the “USU Extension – Carbon County” page. Parents will also be able to find on the Facebook page some really good information about health, food storage and recipes.
Children who participate and complete online activities have a chance to win some great prizes. “When the kids will do the activity that we posted that day if they will take a picture of it and post it to the bottom of the comments, we enter them into some prizes that we’ve got that we’ll offer,” stated Barr. These prizes range from t-shirts, frisbees, cups and other fun 4-H swag items.
The 4-H program is a great way for children to meet other kids and learn some great hobbies/skills. “So, 4-H is a positive, youth development program and their motto is Learn By Doing. So much of what we do is giving kids experiences from different categories from woodworking to fairy gardens, to duct tape, to even livestock, its can be anything that they want,” explained Barr. 4-H membership is only $10.00 per year, signup at http://ut.4honline.com This will give a child a summer full of fun with 4-H.
Also, the program is always looking for adults who may have an amazing hobby or special skill that they would like to share. To learn more on how to become a club leader visit http://carboncounty4-h.org/club-leader
