The Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers have been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, they are still offering meals to those senior citizens that are in need. Director of Aging, Robbie Jensen took the time to speak with Castle Country Radio about how the center is helping to provide meals to seniors in both counties.
“So Mobile Meals we’re no longer entering anyone’s home. This will not only allow the seniors less contact but us as well. It would be bad if all of my staff we’re to be quarantined then we have no way to get meals out to seniors so it’s as much for their protection as it is ours,” stated Jensen. Workers will still have to make sure that the senior is home before meals can be dropped off.
Jensen explains how is workers are keeping themselves and the seniors safe why delivering meals, “The best way that we have to do this is to leave the meals either right inside the front door, just outside the front door or hanging on the doorknob and that way we can knock or crack the door and yell in to let them know we are here and as soon as we see or hear that senior then we will move on to the next house.” This is keeping to the social distancing rule.
“The other option that we are doing, especially for those seniors that have compromised immune systems or just want less exposure to the public we are offering to do a one delivery for the week and we would bring out the frozen meals that they need for the week,” stated Jensen. So the seniors have a couple of different options available to them if they would like their meals delivered.
At this time the centers are still serving hot meals but it is for pickup only. Unfortunately, you cannot sit to enjoy your meal at the center. “We will still have hot and ready meals available, Monday through Thursday from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm when we are delivering those meals the people that will be handing out those meals will have gloves on and staff will be wearing a mask as well,” stated Jensen. Emery County Seniors can enjoy a hot meal on Mondays or Tuesdays depending on the center.
