With the spread of COVID-19 across the country, the Price City Fire Department (PCFD) is taking precautions to protect themselves against the virus. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Fire Chief Fitzgerald Petersen about those precautions.

“We’re very careful now on who we send to a typical 911 call. We can’t send everybody that is available to take care of everything that we can, we’ve had to be more strategic. So, we’re sending the same number of firefighters but we’re making sure that only one or two go into the home until its time to move that patient,” said Fire Chief Petersen.  Normally, EMS, Fire and Police would have all been dispatched to the call but now the procedure eliminates unnecessary bodies inside the home as EMS is working on the patient.

Most community members know that when it comes to tough times our citizens always rally together to help one another during difficult times. The PCFD found out first hand that help is readily available as Chief Petersen explains, “People has stepped up and made masks they’ve made liners that can go over these masks to extend the life of the ones that we do have because we are reusing them and this isn’t a money issue this is an availability so that’s a perfect example.” If in the future, further items are needed, Chief Petersen knows that he can count on help from the community.
