Carbon Caring for Kids is Castle Country Radio’s April Charity of the Month. The radio station took this opportunity to speak over the telephone with Co-Founder Marcy Loveless who shared how the organization is assisting school age children with food kits.
“Carbon Caring for Kids is a weekend backpack program for food for kids in our area that are just needing a little bit of extra food. Sometimes there are kids that aren’t getting any food from Friday school at lunch time to Monday at breakfast time and we saw a need,” said Loveless. The non-profit organization took a need within the community and developed a program that is now servicing almost 200 children with food kits each week.
Any individuals that would like to make a donation towards the cause can find out what food items are needed quite easily. “So, we created a Facebook group page called Carbon Caring for Kids and there’s close to 1,000 members in that group and every Monday we just post the things that we need for that next coming week,” stated Loveless. The organization works closely with school counselors as that is where they get the number of kits that are needed at each school. Volunteers then help pack and distribute those kits. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Loveless along with members of her little family are helping prepare the kits each week.
