Southeastern Utah of Association of Local Governments would like to remind citizens about the 2020 Census that is currently being conducted as of April 1. Regional Planning Director, Michael Bryant took the time to visit with Castle Country Radio to talk about the 2020 Census.

“Well, the census is done every ten years and its intended to get an accurate count of the entire nation through that ten-year time period. It’s used for various purposes, the data is used at government levels, its used locally, it’s used by businesses, all of these entities to help them either build a business model or to apply for grants, a various number of things,” said Bryant. The results of the census will help communities get new schools, new clinics, new roads and more services for families, older adults and children.

Most residents should have gotten an invitation letter in the mail during the month of March on how to respond to the census which you can do either online, by telephone or mail. When responding online, citizens must complete the census in one sitting, as there is not a way to save their progress. If residents did not receive an invitation letter, they are encouraged to respond to the census by logging on to https://2020census.gov/

The info that will be asked for is basic information about all people living in the household.  “The self-response date has been extended to July 31 due to current conditions with our pandemic that we’ve been having, there will also be the door to door people that may be coming sooner or later but we don’t have officials dates on when that will happen,” said Bryant. If someone visits your home later this year to collect information for the 2020 Census, check to make sure they have a valid ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.
