Castle Country Radio was able to catch up with Sheriff Jeff Wood to speak with him over the telephone about spring cleaning, warm temperatures and children playing outdoors.

“Now’s the time to get all those little things done that seemed to accumulate over the winter make sure that your culverts are open and not plugged, and your gutters are still attached to the house in my case, they seem to fill up with ice and they’ll detach, but get all that stuff ready to go because we’re going into the season where you could see those monsoonal rains,” stated Sheriff Wood. A properly functioning and regularly maintenance gutter system could protect your home from water damage.

The spring like temperatures we’ve had this week is nice in the valley but it’s still cold, snowy and muddy up in the higher elevations. The Carbon County Search & Rescue Team is on call 24/7 to assist folks that might find themselves in trouble.  “Keep in mind we’ll bring you down but we’re not able to bring vehicles out of the mud just because we can’t risk tearing up your vehicle or tearing up ours and we don’t’ have the insurance for it,” said Sheriff Wood. Members of the Search and Rescue team are on a volunteer basis and donate their personal time to aid people who are in distress or imminent danger.

The nice weather and school dismissal have the town’s littlest citizens out enjoying the weather too as Sheriff Wood explains, “With the way things are today, with kids out of school and everything going on, I see kids everywhere I think it’s awesome but as a motoring public keep in mind, they’re not watching for you, you’ve got to watch for them, they’re on bikes, and scooters, and skateboards, and all kinds of things. I’ve never seen more kids out and about then they are right now and I think that’s awesome.” Motorists should travel through residential areas fully aware of their surroundings at all times.
