Liberty Gardens of Utah is looking forward to hosting a Community Garden Planning Meeting on Thursday, April 23 at 7:00 pm at the garden located at 5126 North Highway 6 in Helper. They would like to donate a portion of their property towards a community garden if there is enough interest and participation.
“We are a for profit market garden this year in Helper, Utah, this actually will be our first year in production but our plans are to be cultivating half-acre of vegetable garden this year, and we also have 23 different fruit trees on the property that will be supplying vegetables and fruit to the local community there,” said Garden Representative, Sean Robison. The goal for the garden is to provide the community with the most nutritious, all-natural food as possible.
The organization has already started spring planting as Robison explains, “Oh boy, actually, I currently got 24 variety started for the spring. As far as the community garden goes, we’re donating a portion of the property previously hadn’t considered putting into production this year, so we’ve kind of been scrambling this last week to actually remove a couple of trees and clear that ground and get it ready for cultivation.” The area will house a good size garden for the community if there is enough interest from the public.
Folks that are interested in learning more about the possibility of having a community garden will need to attend a public meeting. “This Thursday at 7:00 pm here at the property that’s located at 5126 North Highway 6 here in Helper, we will be having a public meeting to explore community interest in the community garden,” said Robison. There are only nine spots available so interested individuals must signup via the Liberty Gardens of Utah’s Facebook page. If there is more interest than the nine reserved spots, garden officials will host additional public meetings to accommodate those additional people that are interested. The organization hopes that community members will join them this season in the community garden.
