The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce has been very busy helping local businesses stay afloat during the COVID10 pandemic. They’ve been sharing with local merchants various information about small business loans and grants. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Executive Chamber Director, Deserae Stevenson about what the chamber has been doing to assist local businesses.

“There’s a lot going on that different people, different departments are all involved in, you know just trying to get the information out to businesses, trying to find the information you know to kind of show that there is still hope for all these small businesses that are struggling, you know we’re trying to make it so they aren’t struggling as much and they have the opportunities to apply for grants or small business loans, just depending on what it is that they are looking for and what they qualify for,” said Stevenson. Those grants can be either be federal aid or loans that can be obtained through local banking institutions.

There are many grants that can help businesses, the chamber has been working hard to research those available monies. “You have the Emergency Injury Disaster Loan/Grant which is SBA, and they are still accepting businesses to apply for that. Then you have your PPP Loan which is through a lender, so through your bank that you can apply for that. I know we only have a couple of banks here that are participating in that as well,” stated Stevenson. Another type of funding can come from Save Small Business Initiative which is through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Further information about loans and grants can be obtained from the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber has been very busy compiling a list of restaurants that are open in the area. “So we’ve reached out to all of our local restaurants and we’ve been in touch with them for over the last, about a month, and you know just calling to see how they are doing, making sure about hours, making sure they are open, just making sure that we are giving out the right information to the public. We’ve done that with retail businesses as well,” said Stevenson. Any businesses that would like to make sure they are listed can contact the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce to share their information.
