The Carbon and Emery Senior Centers are eagerly waiting to open their doors again to local senior citizens. Castle Country Radio caught up with Director of Aging, Robbie Jensen to talk about when the centers will reopen.
“Once our area is in the green, our area is back to the new normal, whatever the new normal will look like. But at that point we should be able to have seniors come back to the center and we should be able to lead a more normal routine on what the senior center was doing before,” said Jensen. The center will follow any and all requirements that the county or state implements.
When the county does move to green status, the Senior Center will need to take a look at their transportation services. “We’ll see if there are any smaller adjustments to our bus route or the number of people, we would be transporting on the bus at a time but we will be back open and we’ll just practice social distancing while still operating our more normal hours,” state Jensen. More information about possible changes to the center’s transportation policy will come at a later date.
The centers have been busy during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering mobile meals and curbside service at the centers. “We’re still delivering meals out of the Senior Center. So curbside meals are still available at all of the Senior Centers on the day that meals are served and we also have meals on wheels that are going out daily as well. So Monday through Thursday in Carbon County and Monday through Friday down in Emery County,” explained Jensen. All meals are available to anyone over the age of 60 years old.
