The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce has been hosting zoom meetings for their speed networking events and Executive Chamber Director, Deserae Stevenson sat down with Castle Country Radio to talk about what this involves, plus share other news taking place at the chamber.

“Speed Networking is a chance where we’re giving everybody to come together, and you have a 60-second pitch that you get to sell your business on or if you have a home business, you kind of explain what you do and how and what services you have to offer for the community,” said Stevenson. This is a quick opportunity to share your business information with other merchants within the community. The next Speed Networking event will take place on June 24 and details on this event can be obtained from the Chamber of Commerce office at (435) 637-2788.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the chamber has put all ribbon-cutting ceremonies on hold however they plan to schedule those beginning next month. “Come July we will be hosting luncheons again, and we will be contacting businesses to set up ribbon cuttings; so if there is a business that hasn’t had it yet, you know due to COVID-19 or maybe they just weren’t ready for one, say they open a few years ago and they would like one, we can do that, that’s not a problem,” said Stevenson. Businesses that wish to schedule a ribbon-cutting ceremony will need to contact the Chamber of Commerce office.

Our local Chamber of Commerce has been invited to participate in a statewide podcast which they are very enthusiastic to be a part of. “We were approached by the Women’s Business Center of Utah, and they asked if we would sit in on a panel and ask questions about how, you know, the chamber’s been dealing with this, how the businesses have been dealing with this, and how we’ve all come together to work on fixing some of the issues that might have come up, and then how we plan on moving forward. So we’re super excited for the opportunity to represent the rural area,” said Stevenson. The podcast is scheduled to take place later on this month.

This year’s Snapshot Passport program will be done online for students to participate in during the summer months. “So what we’ve decided to do is we are going to do a virtual Snapshot Passport, so you’ll see those on social media. We spoke with the school district, there also going to put it on their website when they come out, just to get the word out there. So there is going to be things for kids to do,” explained Stevenson. Prizes will be gathered by officials and at the end of the summer will be awarded to the students who’ve completed the most Snapshot Passport activities.
