The Carbon County Family Support Center and Children Justice Center are eager to celebrate Utah Family month with an event that will get local families outdoors to enjoy some time together. Director, Shelley Wright took time to come into the Castle Country Radio Station to share details about their upcoming event.

“About four years ago, the association of Family Support Centers got together and felt like we need to do a state-wide campaign, something to highlight and be proud of our Utah families. So we decided to come up with Utah Family month; several years ago there was a National Family month and so we decided to celebrate it through Utah and we were able to get the governor on board and he has officially signed and proclaimed that Utah Family month will run from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day every single year,” explained Wright. This campaign is recognized and celebrated throughout all Family Support Centers within the state through various activities that they each host.

In conjunction with Utah Family month, the organization is holding their fourth annual kite flying activity on Friday, June 19 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at their location of 80 South Fairgrounds Way in Price. Wright shares details on the event, “What we’re going to do is we have 150 kites that we are handing out to the first 150 children, we’re going to do a drive-by. Families will drive-by, we will hand out the kites to the children and each car load of families will receive a swag bag from the center and a lot of great things.” The swag bags are being put together by the center’s employees and they received assistance from the CARE Coalition.

The annual Back to School Giveaway will take place in August but will be done by appointment only. “We have been doing this event since even before my time as the Director of the center and I’ve been there for over 15 years. So we’re still going to do backpacks and school supplies it will be different this year we’re going to set those up by appointment only. Probably anywhere from three to five days in the week starting in the second week of August,” stated Wright. Organizers are not quite sure how the clothing portion of the event will take place but as soon as those details are finalized they will be shared with the public.
