Each week Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood takes time to stop in to the Castle Country Radio Station to inform residents about what is currently happening at the Sheriff’s Department and/or shares various seasonal safety tips. This week’s topic was on neighbors, fire safety and road construction.

“You know I would ask that with these times and with the pandemic going on be a little more tolerant of your neighbor. We’ve been getting a lot of complaints lately about barking dogs in the middle of the day and you know the ordinance really doesn’t deal with much in the day-time hours, at night-time if it’s a dog that barks continually then you should get law enforcement involved but a dog that barks at something that just kind of runs by well that’s a dog being a dog,” said Sheriff Jeff Wood. The first step should be to speak with your neighbor about the problem as they may not be aware of it, especially if they work away from home all day. If it can’t be resolved with a talk than law enforcement can be contacted.

It’s the season of wildfires so its very important that when folks are enjoying the outdoors that fire precautions be taken. “There’s a lot of fires going on in our state and most of them are man-caused from people going out camping, and that is more prominent this year than its been in years because that’s something we can do and be COVID compliant. But make sure that you’re taking care of your campfires and everything is doused before you than because it would be a sad day to have your favorite camp spot burn down,” explained Sheriff Wood. It’s not a bad idea to take a shovel and a jug full a water to help douse the fire when you are ready to leave your camping spot.

“You know with summertime comes the road construction and so right now the county roads over in Spring Glen, Kenilworth and that area doing chip seal. So you know be careful around those areas in the next days to come, they county crews will be working there and then they’ll move on but the rocks will still be there so slow down a little bit,” stated Sheriff Wood. Drivers should obey all speed limit signs when traveling through road construction areas.
