Many folks may not realize that Price City Council Member, Layne Miller is an enthusiast when it comes to Nine Mile Canyon. He knows a lot about the history of the canyon and loves to share that knowledge with folks who invite him to host a tour.
“The thing about Nine Mile, everybody thinks of Nine Mile they think of the petroglyphs and pictographs and that’s what drew me there but there is so much history. The oldest confirmed date that I can find is 1867 so people have been going in there – white people have been going in there since then, the Utes were in there before, the Fremont Indian were in there 1,000 years ago, so there’s this really terrific blend of prehistoric and historic rock art,” explained Miller. Nine Mile Canyon is located just east of Price and has been referred to as the world’s longest art gallery.
Miller will be hosting a Motorcycle Tour of Nine Mile on Saturday, June 20 with KSU at 9:00 am from Miller’s Travel Center in Wellington. Miller explains what is planned for the tour, “Well we’re going to talk about the history of course. We’re going to see some petroglyphs and a few pictographs. Some Fremont granaries, where they stored their corn, beans and stuff, and we’re going to look at the scenery. Since the road is now paved it’s a fabulous motorcycle tour, great ride.” Individuals that wish to participate in the Motorcycle Tour of Nine Mile may contact Layne at (435) 820-4326 for further information and details.
