The Castle Country Junior Livestock Show will take place on July 17 and July 18 in Ferron and is currently looking for participants. This is a newly formed livestock show that will take the place of this year’s state show which was called the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show.

“Southeastern Junior Livestock Show was a 4-H and FFA stock show with the COVID no body is really sure what the restrictions are or what it meant. The 4-H pulled out, and FFA was a little bit not sure. So, this is considered a jack-pot, open jack-pot,” said an Event Organizer Cody Jensen. This livestock show has a registration deadline of June 26 and entry fee of $10.00 per animal. Species that can be shown are beef, sheep, goat and swine.

“We’re taking entries, we would like everybody to email an entry in till the June 26. We have a meeting if someone wants to get involved with this, it’ll be in Huntington, June 29 at 7:30 pm at the park,” said Jensen. This meeting will be a great opportunity to learn more details of this year’s Junior Livestock Show as it will be organized a bit differently because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Because of the pandemic, there will be no auction held this year. However, livestock owners can have a private agreement with a buyer prior to the show. “We decided to do a private treaty, so if you bring an animal, hopefully, you have it sold before you come, but I do have people contacting the committee that wants to buy a lamb for instance, and they’re willing to pay X–amount of dollars,” said Jensen. Those participants that wish to sell their animals and don’t have a buyer can speak with Jensen about their desire to sell. Magnuson Meats in Castle Dale and Ungerman Meats in Huntington are fully aware of the upcoming livestock show and are eager to process those animals upon request.
