The Carbon Caring for Kids is gearing up for their fourth year of assisting school aged children in the Carbon County area. This group is a non-profit organization that provides donated food kits to local children during the school year on weekends and holidays to ensure that they have food outside of their regular school food programs.

Marcy Loveless, Coordinator spoke about how the idea came to light, “So Tiffani and I got together and we decided to just do the Thanksgiving weekend, this was about four years ago and we contacted all the schools and we had 40 kids, then it got up to 60 kids and I just texted a whole bunch of people and within three hours we had everything that we needed for five days for 60 kids plus some. That’s when we decided this problem is not going to go away so lets just keep doing it as long as the community is willing to donate.” Loveless and her friend Tiffani Noyes took a need within the community and are now servicing over 100 children with food kits.

Now that the organization is running itself the need for volunteers who donate and help pack the food kits each week are now contacting Carbon Caring for Kids on a regular basis. “For a long time, and I still do now but I would get messages almost daily in saying, what can I do to help? Or what is there something that I can do? Or can I sign up? That’s the way it’s been just as we have started again for this school year. I have constant people saying, can I come and pack kits? We are actually scheduled out until Christmas every week of groups coming to pack kits,” explained Loveless. The kit packing assembly line and storage is in the basement of Loveless’ home.

Individuals who wish to donate food items can do so by following the Carbon Caring for Kids Facebook page. “So on Mondays on the Facebook page I put we need this many loaves of bread or this much fruit or fruit cups, whatever it is, we have a very specific menu and then I put that on Facebook and then people just comment and say I will bring this, I will bring that, and there are four different drop off spots around town to make it easy for people and then they drop it off and then Tuesday nights we have a group of 10 to 15 that come to my house every Tuesday and they come and pack the kits and then we have volunteers that actually come pick up those kits on Thursday and deliver them to the counselors by Friday,” stated Loveless.

The three drop off locations are Loveless’ home at 1551 West 360 North, Carbon Print and Design at 86 East 100 South, and Love-Less Ash Company at 1285 East 650 South all in Price.
