Southeastern Utah Health Department would like to remind parents about back to school vaccines that are needed for kindergarten students. District School Nurse, Heidi Yoklavich took time to come into Castle Country Radio to give details on immunizations.

“Kindergarten Round-up is generally done in the spring and the parents come to the school they bring their immunizations records, we’re able to look at those while they’re there and kind of tell them what their kids are going to need to attend kindergarten,” said Yoklavich. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the Kindergarten Round-up was not able to be held because of the school closure that began in March.

This year the Kindergarten Round-up will be held during the week of August 3 through August 7 at various schools in the district. “Each day is a different elementary school, I believe we have Creekview on Monday, Castle Heights Tuesday, Sally Mauro Wednesday, Thursday is Wellington and Bruin Point is on Friday,” said Yoklavich. Each day registration will begin at 10:00 am and run till 2:00 pm.

“I encourage you to if you child’s records are not current if you were not able to get those shots bring the records with you to Kindergarten Round-up, me or one of the other nurses from the Health Department that will be there can assess them and advise you on which shots your kindergartener is going to need,” said Yoklavich. If you find that your child is in need of shots please contact the Southeastern Utah Health Department to make an appointment to get shots.

Their walk-in clinic is now by appointment only. “Its still Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm is when there’s nurse staffed to do immunization but we’re requesting you actually call the Health Department to set up a time so that we’re able to accommodate you that way and still manage the social distancing and not have our Health Department get super congested with people,” said Yoklavich. Parents that wish to make an appointment may do so by calling the Health Department at (435) 637-3671.
