The Carbon Dinos opened the golf season with a comfortable 18 stroke victory Wednesday afternoon at Round Valley, the home course of the Morgan Trojans and the site of this year’s State Championship meet.

Carbon fired a team score of 324 to defeat second place Richfield’s 342. Emery ended third with a 354, just beating South Sevier’s 358 and Grand’s 359. San Juan finished a distant last after shooting a 435.

Sophomore Bode Salas picked up where he left off in 2019 by finishing with a 69, the low score of the meet. Individually Grand’s Wyatt Toney was second with a 77, followed by South Sevier’s Carson Thornock’s 79.

Daron Garner and Kyler Clark both complimented Salas’ outstanding performance with an 84. Brandon Scoville logged the team’s fourth score with an 87.

Holding an 18 stroke lead over Richfield for first in the region, the Dinos will travel to Richfield’s home course Cove View on Tuesday.

The six teams will continue to compete over the next two months. Carbon will play host to its lone home meet on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Region Championship is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28 at Round valley, followed by the State Championship on Oct. 7 and 8.
