Emery County Residents are looking forward to a Better Together But Six Feet Apart Celebration taking place on August 28 and August 29 at the Aquatic Center. Event Organizer, Sandra Huntington took some time to speak about the upcoming event.

The celebration started a couple of weeks early on August 17 with a Scavenger Hunt. “We’re going to have this weeklong Scavenger Hunt so it’s going to begin on Monday and end on Saturday and its basically for the whole family, and we’re going to give little clues for the family at 11:00 am, every day, for the six days,” said Huntington. Clues can be found by visiting the Emery County Fair’s Facebook page.  Also taking place this week is a Disc Golf Contest where participants will have an opportunity to win kayak.

Beginning on Friday, August 21 and running till August 22 at 6:00 pm there will be a Teenager 24-hour Questavus Contest. “There will be a list of different adventures and different services that you can do. So the group of 3 or 4 they’re sent off and they can have 24 hours, if they want, it will be like building a fire, roasting a marshmallow, reading a story to a child, and who ever gets the most points by 6:00 pm on Saturday their team will win a $1,000.00,” said Huntington. Emery Telcom sponsored $5,000.00 in cash prizes for the Better Together But Six Feet Apart Celebration events.

On Friday, August 28, will be filled with various evening activities and the evening will kick off with bike races at 5:00 pm. There will be several Jr. Entrepreneur Booths and local food vendors set up at the Aquatic Center. There will be a pickleball tournament at 6:00 pm held at the Fairgrounds. There will be live entertainment to enjoy as Huntington explains, “Jeff Civillico he’s a juggler and comedian from Vegas, he is so hilarious. We had him last year and he’s coming back and he’s at 6:00 pm. So I hope that a lot of people will show up for that, and we’re just having everyone bring their own lawn chairs, bring your own seating so that we’re not touching chairs and sharing germs.” Then at 7:30 pm Johnny V and the Trouble Train Band will take the stage and the evening will close with a teen movie at 9:00 pm.

On Saturday, August 29 will kick-off activities at 10:00 am with a home run derby and roping contest both with cash prizes on the line. The Jr. Entrepreneur and food vendors will open at noon. A cornhole tournament and the Miss Emery Talent Show will start at 1:00 pm. Then at 2:00 pm there will be the Voice of Emery singing contest, Huntington shares important details about the competition, “Then we got Voice of Emery from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, so anybody that wants to come and try out their singing voice there is going to be a prize to record professionally and they will be the winner.” There will be a Horseshoe Tournament at 4:00 pm, followed by a Spikeball Tournament at 5:00 pm. There will be an evening of entertainment scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm with the Straight Canyon Band, again bring your lawn chairs. The night will close out with a Kids Movie in the park.
