The Carbon Dinos encountered their first major obstacle of the golf season with a fourth place finish at the Hideout Golf Course Wednesday afternoon in Monticello.

Entering the meet one stroke back of Richfield for first place overall in the division, Carbon shot a season high 377. Richfield, who also encountered trouble, ended in first place with after shooting a season high 347.

Sophomore Bode Salas ended third on the individual leaderboard with an 80 over the 18 hole competition. Daron Garner, Branden Scovill and Cole Yoklavich all shot a 99 to close out the four scores for the team.

Grand ended the meet in second place with a 361, followed by Emery’s 368. Carbon safely defeated fifth place South Sevier, who finished comfortably ahead of sixth place San Juan.

Despite trailing Richfield by 31 strokes for the top spot in the region, the Dinos remain in second place overall. An opportunity to cut into the deficit will present itself on Thursday, Sept. 3 when Carbon plays host to its lone home meet.

The next competition will also signal the midway point for all teams in the division. Trips to Cove View, Moab and Millsite remain on the schedule, as well as the Region 12 championship on Sept. 28 at Round Valley.
