Despite a solid defensive performance the Emery Lady Spartans were unable to keep pace with the Millard Eagles, suffering a 3-0 loss in the final non-region contest of the season Thursday afternoon in Castle Dale.
Locked in a tight battle throughout much of the contest, Emery trailed 1-0 at the end of the first half. Millard continued to roll defensively and added two more goals to secure the win and improve to 5-3 overall.
The non-region setback drops Emery’s record to 1-5 overall. The Lady Spartans are currently one of three teams in Region 12 who have a record below the .500 barrier.
Emery will now shift its focus to the league schedule, which will run throughout the month of September and end on Oct. 1. Tuesday the team will travel to meet the Grand Red Devils before wrapping up the week on Thursday with another road tilt against South Sevier.
Once the quick two-game road trip is complete, the Lady Spartans will host the San Juan Broncos on Sept. 8 for the first of two straight home games.
