The Carbon Dinos earned its first win under head coach Phil Howa by topping the Judge Memorial Bulldogs 42-25 Friday night in Price.

“This is what we practice for every day,” said Howa following the win. “Our big goal today was to be okay with a mistake, but coming back and making a big play the next time.”

Trailing 13-0 midway through the first quarter, the Dinos responded with 22 unanswered points to capture a nine point lead at the break. The second half turned into a back and forth battle before Carbon scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to seal the deal.

Junior Davin Moss produced his most efficient game of the season out of the backfield for Carbon. Scoring the team’s first two touchdowns, Moss ended the contest 73 yard off of 14 carries, averaging 5.2 per touch.

Senior McKaden Whiteleather also found the end zone twice; once on the ground and another on a reception as he ended with 53 all purpose yards on just two touches.

The most impressive aspect of Friday’s win for Carbon may have been responding from an early two score deficit. Unable to dig themselves out of holes earlier this season, Howa was impressed with his team’s resiliency in the win.

“I told them we just have to go. There’s no quitting here at Carbon,” said Howa. “We played so well in the second quarter that I think we got full ourselves. We had another chance to quit in the third, but we didn’t. We got the lead back and got the win.”

Now 1-3 on the season, the Dinos will wrap up the non-region portion of the schedule with a road trip to Roosevelt to meet the Cougars on Friday.

Friday’s contest will air live on KRPX 95.3 The Peak beginning at 6:30 p.m.. Kick-off will follow shortly after.
