The Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be hosting a Youth Pheasant Hunt on Saturday, October 10. Castle Country Radio sat down with Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott to discuss the details about this upcoming event.

The DWR collaborates with Hatt’s Ranch in Green River to host the event on their property. “We have the staff at Hatt’s Ranch, as well as some of the DWR personnel there on site, there’s some dogs, all you got to do is show up with your firearm and it’s a lot of fun. The kids have a great time, make some great memories, like you said it’s a good, friendly, opportunity for people to start young, especially if they’ve never had a chance to get into this,” said Bott. Hatt’s Ranch is providing the birds, so novice hunters will have an increased opportunity for success in harvesting pheasants.

Space is limited to 14 participants so pre-registration is strongly encouraged. “The best way to register is to get online at our website Eventbrite.com and you can look for the Youth Pheasant Hunt down in the Green River area or you can just call the Price DWR office at (435) 613-3700,” said Bott. Individuals will need their hunter education completed or a trial hunting program number, as well as a valid hunting or combination license

The DWR will be conducting a fish inventory on Wednesday as Bott explains further, “We’re going to be going up to Huntington Creek and as most of us know there was a large fire back in 2011 and we’re going to be inventorying the stock of the fish. We’ve been monitoring and seeing a lot of the fish come back and we’re pretty excited to go out again this year and see what we’ve got.” This is a unique area of blue stream fishing that only allows anglers to use artificial flies and lures.

If you are out fishing and have great success the DWR would like to hear from you as they are unable to get out to all bodies of water in our area. “It would be beneficial to me if you’re out and about, if you’re fishing on the weekend or during a weekday. If you’re having success or not just call in at the Division office here in Price and give us a report of what you found,” said Bott. The DWR relies heavily on reports from anglers who are out on the water.
