The Carbon County Senior Center have been running with some restrictions due to the COVID pandemic. Now that the county is in the green phase the Carbon Center has opened up for meals with some rules that need to be followed. Director Robbie Jensen took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss these changes.

“For Carbon County obviously going green doesn’t mean all restrictions are lifted. However, we are able to have seniors in the centers again for lunch. So we opened up things Monday through Thursday, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, seniors can come in to the center and actually eat in the center,” said Jensen. There will be some guidelines that seniors will have to follow when visiting the center.

“Everyone still needs to wear a mask and we are taking everyone’s temperature at the door. So if you have a temperature over 100 degrees we’re asking that you not come into the center, wait until that fever has gone down, and if you are uncomfortable wearing a mask or you just want to wait until you feel more comfortable, please, by all means, don’t come to the center until you feel comfortable,” said Jensen. Individuals can still get meals via curbside pickup at the center or individuals can choose to have meals on wheels delivered to their homes.

At this point, there are still no activities planned at the Senior Center however they will open up through different phases that the center has established.  “We kind of set up four phase guidelines, I guess if you will for the senior centers. Phase One, opening for the meals and right now we’re still packaging everything as if everybody is taking a curbside meal home and if no problems arise from that then we will start with a modified buffet,” said Jensen. Phase Two will reopen activities at the center. Officials will start off with a few activities then gradually progress from there.

“Phase Three will be busses running for lunch and appointments, and then Phase Four will be back to our regular hours and activities with no restrictions. I don’t put a timeline to any of those things because who knows what might happen in the future. But for right now, yes, we are open for lunch and they are welcomed and able to come into the center to eat,” said Jensen. Seniors that have any questions about the meals and services offered at this time can contact the center at (435) 636-3202.
