Sophomore Bode Salas sits in a first-place tie individually, while the Carbon Dinos have qualified for the second and final day of the 3A State Championship Tournament at Round Valley in Morgan.

Competing against 13 other schools from around the state, the Dinos ended with a team score of 333, placing them seventh overall. Morgan will enter the final day of competition with a five stroke lead over Delta for first place. Judge Memorial, Richfield and Grantsville round out the top five.

Salas ended Day One three under-par after shooting a 69. Registering five birdies, the hole of the day for Salas came on 12 as he logged an Eagle on the par 5. Delta’s Jake Henrie also finished with a 69 Wednesday afternoon.

Daron Garner recorded the second low individual score the Dinos as he shot an 85. Branden Scovill was third with an 88 and Kyler Clark was next at 91. Cole Yoklavich and Graedon Leautaud also competed for Carbon, but their final scores did not count towards the team’s total.

Wednesday’s team performance means the Dinos will advance to the final day of competition. Carbon will first tee-off at 9:30 a.m.. Salas is scheduled to begin at 10:20 from tee No. 1.
