The Carbon County Food Bank is a wonderful organization within the Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments that offers help to individuals/families that are in need. Community Services Program Manager, Julie Rosier took time to talk with Castle Country Radio about their services.

This year the Boy Scouts and the Stamp Out Hunger food drives were unable to be held because of COVID. Both of these annual food drives are a huge help to restock the shelves at the local Food Bank. “We usually receive thousands of pounds of food during those two food drives. Because it was canceled that has put us in a spot where we are low on several items, food items. So we are doing some other things to try and bring in some donations and what not to purchase those items,” said Rosier. The Food Bank is essential to providing hunger relief for individuals/families in the area.

“Right now, we are really low on mac & cheese, ramen, Hamburger Helper, those instant kinds of quicker meals, tuna fish we’re really low on right now too – which is a really good protein. Then also some of the assorted pastas, pasta sauces, peanut butter, that’s something that hit us during this food drive especially hard that we are really low on,” said Rosier. Donations are accepted during regular hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. If you are unable to donate items to the food bank you can make a monetary donation towards the cause.

The Food Bank is always looking for volunteers to assist in stocking shelves. “We’re always looking for volunteers especially during this pandemic because you realize it takes a lot more time you are individually boxing up individual’s food to try help to load it in their vehicle. You’re spending that extra time just trying to clean surfaces and disinfect and it does take a lot more time. So especially right now we are always looking for volunteers,” said Rosier. Individuals who wish to volunteer can contact the Food Bank at (435) 637-9232.

If you are in need of the Food Bank Services you do have to call to make an appointment for pick-up. “With the weather changing and it getting colder we really want to minimize people outside waiting in the cold temperatures. So with the increased numbers of COVID in our community too we really want to make every effort to try and social distance individuals and have people in their own space. I mean they are putting appointments every five minutes pretty quick, that way hopefully you can just go in to complete the quick, what’s your name and what not and pick up your food,” said Rosier. Again, to schedule an appointment for pick up just call the Food Bank at (435) 637-9232.
