
A dominating second quarter propelled the Carbon Lady Dinos past South Summit in a 64-35 win Thursday afternoon in the Shanon Johnson Tournament at Uintah High School.
Holding a 21-10 lead at the end of the opening quarter, Carbon outscored South Summit 19-0 in the second to put the game out of the reach. The final two quarters were a formality as the Lady Dinos earned a win in the season opener.
Junior Janzie Jensen posted a game-high 13 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Spreading the ball around the court, Jensen also led the team in assists with five to go along with three steals defensively.
Fellow junior Molly Banks also reached double-figures as she poured in 12 points after connecting on 5-of-7 shots from the field. Senior Makenna Blanc and freshman Madi Orth each finished with eight points.
As a team Carbon shot 42-percent from the field, including 39-percent from deep. Defensively the Lady Dinos logged 18 steals, which helped set the pace on the opposite end of the floor.
South Summit’s Averie Snyder was the lone Wildcat to reach double-figures as she ended with 12 points. Sadie Eiting finished with eight, while Raegan Sanderson scored seven.
The Lady Dinos will continue a stretch of three-games-in-three-days when they return to the court Friday evening against the host school Uintah. The three-game stretch will come to an end on Saturday against Wasatch Academy.
