Castleview Hospital has a brand new in-patient program called Step One Services that is located inside the hospital that helps individuals with drug and alcohol dependency. Service Coordinator, Savannah Eley took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the new program.

“So Step One Services is an acute withdrawal management service that we started at Castleview. It’s acute withdrawal management from alcohol or opioids so someone who is suffering from an alcohol use disorder or an opioid use disorder can come in and we’ll management their withdrawals and get them feeling better and get them moved over to the treatment side of things,” said Eley. The patient will be monitored by a physician and nurse as they go through the withdrawal process.

After a few days of medical treatment, the patient will then meet with Eley to develop an individualized discharge plan. “You know when they start feeling better than we will move them over to whatever treatment they want. Because everyone’s treatment is different right? Some people want to go in-patient, some people we refer to Four Corners or Operation Recovery. So for my job, on my side is, I get to come up with an individualized discharge plan for individuals and then I follow them for six months just making sure they are staying engaged in treatment,” stated Eley. This allows the individual to have the support they need to help with their continued treatment.

This type of service has been needed in this area for quite some time. “This is new it opened on November 9 and this is just a brand new service that Castleview is offering and I can tell you that the staff is amazing. We have had a couple of people in and the doctors are caring, the nurses are amazing, and following these people is amazing like they’re motivated right like they’ve been waiting for something like this and they are doing extremely well,” said Eley.
