
The Lady Spartan basketball team opened the season on Friday at the Morgan Invitational. After last season they were eager to get back on the court and kick-off the 2020-2021 campaign.
The first game would be against the host Morgan Trojans on Friday evening. The Spartans met up with the Trojans last year coming away with a 51-40 victory.
The Spartans would come up and jump on the Trojans in the first quarter outscoring them by eight points, they would push that lead to 10 as they took a 27-17 score into the locker room at the half. Emery came out in the second half maintaining the same intensity and take the win 63-34.
Junior Baylee Jacobson would lead the way for the Spartans with 16 points, Bethany Justice, a senior, added 14 and junior Tambrie Tuttle added 11 in the victory.
The next day would bring a challenge in the form of the Syracuse Titans. Syracuse a team from 6A made it all the way to the quarterfinals last season in the State Championship Tournament. The Spartans were outgunned in this one, and fell to the Titans 64-33.
An underclassmen would lead the way once again for the Spartans as Junior Daicee Ungerman added 11 point in this contest. Junior Addie Lester had eight and Tambrie Tuttle added six in the first loss of the season for Emery.
Up next for the Spartans is a match-up with Juan Diego on the road Thursday. Then they will be at the Spartan Center on Saturday to face Hurricane at noon.
