DeLayna Barr stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about giving a 4-H Membership as a Christmas gift this holiday season. This is an affordable gift idea that is not only educational but fun too.
“A great idea is a membership in 4-H which will run through till the end of August, and that will include going to camps, different clubs we are going to be having, and even state programs that they will have available to them to enjoy, learn and do,” said Barr. This membership is good for any clubs or camps that are being offered through the 4-H Program between now and August of next year. There may be some clubs that require small dues for supplies but it’s always a very affordable cost for students.
A portion of the membership fees help cover the background checks on all of the Club Leaders. “So parents and grandparents can know that they are with people who have been safe, and checked, and trained and it’s really exciting. With the membership, we have a gift bag for them, and a t-shirt. So they’ll receive a t-shirt that they can know they are a member of a really, neat, organization in our county,” stated Barr. The membership fee is only $10.00 per student which will cover them for all activities and clubs till August 2021.
Individuals can also sponsor a membership for a student who may not have the financial means to participate. “One thing that we would like you to consider is also donating a membership for a kid in our county that can’t afford it but supplied them with an opportunity to join 4-H,” explained Barr. If you would like to buy a membership for a student you can contact the USU-Extension Office at (435) 636-3233.
There are several clubs that are currently meeting on a regular basis and there are always new clubs being formed. “Right now, we’ve got a Paint Club that meeting, and Discover 4-H Clubs that are third through fifth grade, Sixth Grade Club, we’ve got Junior and Senior Teen Councils, Horse Club, livestock, so many things going on that can involve all interests and age groups,” said Barr. Right now, the Teen Councils are doing a Service Project for the Children’s Justice Center at are making fleece blankets for the children who come into the center. Teen Councils are currently accepting fleece fabric donations from the community to complete the project. If you would like to make a donation to their cause contact the 4-H Office.
