
Coming off a win at home against the Union Cougars on Wednesday, the Spartans took to the road making the trip to Kamas to face the South Summit Wildcats on Friday night. Four quarters wasn’t enough for the two teams, but overtime belonged to the Wildcats and the Spartans were defeated 85-77.
Emery came out taking the first quarter lead 15-14, by halftime South Summit had battled back to take a 37-31 score in to the locker room. The third quarter would see the Wildcats push their lead to nine. In the fourth quarter the Spartans put on the clamps defensively allowing just 13 points while scoring 24 and tying the score at 70 by the end of regulation. Overtime was all South Summit and the Spartans would head back to Castle Dale with a record of 2-2 on the young season.
Senior guard Treven Brazier would lead the Spartans with 16 points. Junior Jace Mangum scored 12. The senior trio of Beau Cook, Jaxton Madsen and Riggs Griffin added 10 points each. Sophomore Justin Curtis had eight. And junior Ryker Jensen with five, senior Luke Stilson with four and sophomore Brett Rasmussen with two, rounded out the scoring for Emery.
For South Summit, senior Payton Sanderson led all scorers with 27. senior Brigham Skinner added 19 and senior Dawson Broadbent dropped 12 in the Wildcat victory.
The Spartans will now get some time off before heading back to the court on Wednesday when they will face the Uintah Utes, this will mark the first of three games in four days. Friday the 18th they will take on Grantsville before ending up in Mount Pleasant on Saturday the 19th to face the North Sanpete Hawks before heading into the Christmas break.
