
The Carbon Lady Dinos continued to dominate in the swimming pool as they remained unbeaten on the season by topping six other schools Tuesday afternoon at the Desert Wave Pool in Price.
Securing wins in six events throughout the competition, the Lady Dinos recorded 330 points, easily defeating second place Emery’s 242. Richfield ended in a distant third with 197 points, followed by Union’s 186. Gunnison, Altamont and North Sevier rounded out the field.
The Lady Dinos started the meet off with a bang as Nicole Swasey, Tyrca Jaramillo, Sofia Crompton and Alyssa Chamberlain took home the top spot in the 200 yard medley relay. Ending with a time of 2:05.3, the girls set the tone early for what would be a sign of things to come.
Chamberlain continued to showcase her ability in the water as she topped teammate Thalyn Lyman for first place in the 50 yard free. Falling behind Chamberlain’s time of 28.05 seconds, Lyman finished in front of two other teammates as Carbon finished first through fourth in the event.
Chamberlain and Lyman would later join Crompton and Haylie Powell to give Carbon another first place finish, this time in the 200 yard free relay. Crompton would also win the 100 yard fly with a time of 1:11.44.
Jaramillo claimed first place in the 100 yard breaststroke, defeating teammate Nicole Swasey who ended .2 seconds behind for second place. Jaramillo would later anchor the 400 yard free relay, along with Chamberlain, Lyman and Haylie Powell, for another first place nod.
The Carbon boy’s swim team ended in third place overall at the meet as they competed against four other schools. Finishing with 203 points, the Dinos finished behind first place Union’s 312 and Richfield’s 246. Emery and Gunnison rounded out the field.
Gabe Ibanez continued his impressive streak to start the season as he won the 500 yard free with a time of 5:42.22.
Ibanez later joined Boyd Bradford, Spencer Tullis and Camden Chamberlain for another team win, this time in the 400 yard free relay.
The swimming season will continue for the Dinos as they travel to Castle Dale on Thursday to meet the Spartans at the Emery County Aquatic Center. Stay tuned for the complete results as they become available.
