Robert Alan Sherman, aka Bert, aka Bobby, aka Uncle Rockus, was born May 29, 1948 in Astoria, Oregon to Dell Robert and Eulita LaRae Mortensen Sherman while dad was in U.S. Navy. He died peacefully late Christmas Day, 2020.
Bert grew up in Huntington (free roaming with many cousins and friends) and Beaver, Utah, where he attended high school. A graduate of the B.H.S. Class of 1966, he participated in athletics, band, and speech and drama as a three-year thespian, and began a long radio career at the high school’s one-watt radio station, KBCS.
He broadcast over KSUB in Cedar City for a summer after high school, and then on to KVNU in Logan while attending college at Utah State University.
He moved his young family to Carson City, Nevada after Logan, then on to a 50,000 watt station in Reno before taking a job at KUGN in Eugene, Oregon where he became a life-long Oregon Ducks fan. He was a master at setting up a joke, and delivering the punch line.
Over the years, Bobby Sherman was also heard on the airwaves in Portland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, St. George, and coast-to-coast on the Real Country Network based in Phoenix and Jones Satellite Services in Denver. He finished a stellar career with a nearly 10-year run at AJB Broadcasting in Price.
During the course of a 50-year plus career, Bobby met and helped promote many major country music recording artists. He particularly enjoyed attending Fan Fest in Nashville each year and interviewing country stars for the Jones Satellite Network.
Anyone who knew Bert quickly learned how passionate he was about politics. Anyone who disagreed with him was simply mistaken.
Bobby is survived by his children, Jason, Melanie and Ashley; sisters, Sandy (Clark) Black, Enoch, Utah, Bonnie (Ben) Timmons, Sandy, Utah; brother, Richard Sherman, Price, Utah.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eulita Sherman.
Graveside services are pending. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
