Loyola Louise Martinez Pacheco passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on January 4, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born September 4, 1938 in Trujillo, Colorado to Eduardo and Ruby Trujillo Martinez. Loyola married Victor Pacheco Sr. on July 6, 1957. They lived in Sunnyside, Utah where they raised their six sons and three daughters. They later moved to South Jordan City to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Loyola spent her childhood on a farm milking cows and had outside toilets. She had fun growing up with her cousins; Moises was one of her favorites. Chores included driving tractors, pitching hay, riding horses and herding sheep.
Mom was a loving homemaker who worked tirelessly raising her nine children, traveling to every one of their sporting events and feeding everyone throughout her life. She taught many of us her craft of tortilla making and although they will never bear her same signature hand print, all future tortillas will be made in her honor.
As her children got older, she worked at Korets, Kaiser Coalmine and a retirement home in Tonapa, Nevada.
Our Mom’s greatest joy was being a “Nana” to her grandchildren and “Mamacita” to her great grandchildren. Her siblings lovingly called her “Chata”.
Mom loved when family and friends would stop by to visit and enjoyed many hours of chatting and laughing with them around the dining table. She was a good dancer and spent countless nights on the dance floor with her husband of 63 years, she also enjoyed cuddling up to watch a movie on the Hallmark Channel and travel adventures from camping to cruising. She especially enjoyed trips with her sisters to visit family in Colorado.
Mom’s most endearing quality was her love and faith in the Lord Jesus. She was a devout Catholic who lived her faith daily with her kind-heart and giving ways. She spent countless hours volunteering for her community and was a very active parishioner at Good Shepherd Catholic Church where her ministries involved being a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister, a CCD teacher, chairing funeral dinners and was President of the Women’s Society. She was named Catholic Woman of the year and was the Cinco de Mayo Grand Marshall along with her husband in 2009.
Loyola is survived by the love of her life, Victor Pacheco Sr., eight children; Melissa Shultzabarger (Damon), Bernadette Greff, Eddie (Susan), Victor (Lori), Jeffrey Sr. (Sherrie), Alan, Richard (Paula) and Theresa Trujillo (Angelo). 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, her baby sister Delfina Cook and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Philip Eugene Pacheco; her beloved grandsons, Brad Victor Martin Pacheco and Anthony James Pacheco. Siblings; Susie Martinez Brigham, Freddie Martinez, Maria Martinez Salaz, and Stella Martinez Lucero.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 201 Center Street in East Carbon City. Rosary will be one hour prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m.
