Christopher Brian Holderness, age 37, was called back home by God on December 25, 2020.
He was born March 6, 1983 in Meridian, Idaho to Brian and Lisa Hayslip Holderness. He came into the life of Calvin Ockey at the young age of five. We knew from an early age that he was a very independent, head-strong youngster and it continued throughout his adult life. Chris was an energetic soul who always loved playing pranks on everyone around him. The few times when his parents were called to school, it was often due to a scuffle caused by Chris standing up for his underdog classmates. Chris excelled in everything he did, as long as it was his idea. He loved riding dirt bikes, fishing, archery, hunting, shooting rifles and pistols, golfing, waterskiing, knee-boarding, and, of course, spending time in Lake Powell. His greatest passion, however, was playing his guitar; of which he was a self-taught master. Growing up his sister Kylie thought of him as a rock star.
At the age of 18, Chris joined the Utah National Guard, and soon thereafter completed boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He served his country in the 457th Engineer Battalion. While in the Guard, he also had the opportunity to visit Nicaragua to help build a school.
He discovered a different love in life when he held his baby boy Dylan for the first time. He truly was the light of Chris’ life.
While living in Price, Dave at Tram Electric saw something in Chris and gave him the opportunity to work in the shop. This opened up a whole new rewarding job for Chris. He spent many hours working in the shop learning new skills and eventually became very skilled in the electrical industry.
In February of 2013, Chris married Jessica Eastin. Later that year they had their baby boy Dylan. Though Chris and Jessica later separated, they were able to remain friends and often communicated about Dylan and how he was doing. Chris loved receiving updates about his boy and video chatting with him weekly.
Chris recently had an opportunity to go to Santa Rosa, California. While there, Chris found God and was baptized in the Russian River in Sonoma County. While living in California, Chris worked for Ernesto Ibarra at Beyond Pool Care. In his short period of time on this earth, he accomplished many things. His barber Lenny, a childhood friend still to this day, often joked that Chris had already lived 12 of his nine lives. Chris touched many people’s lives during his time here on earth.
He is survived by his mother, Lisa; father, Calvin; sister, Kylie; his precious son, Dylan; grandfather, Charles, and grandparents, Keith and LaRene Ockey.
He is preceded in death by his biological father, Brian; grandmother, Gail Hayslip; great-grandparents, Wilbur and Dorothy Chun; cousin, Josh White; uncle, Charlie.
The family would like to thank Chris’ loving family members, friends, and his extended family in Santa Rosa, California for all of their outpouring of love and support at this difficult time. Until we meet again, ROCK ON!
