The No. 1 ranked Emery Lady Spartans had no trouble protecting their unbeaten region record and home court as they dominated the Grand Red Devils 84-28 Tuesday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Fresh off of wins over Richfield and Carbon, Emery wasted little time gaining a hefty advantage on the overmatched Red Devils squad.

Racing out to a 25-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Spartans extended their advantage to 34, taking a 50-16 lead into the break. The third quarter may have been the most over powering quarter of the night as Emery outscored Grand 20-2 in the eight minute span.

Baylee Jacobson led the Lady Spartans as she shot an efficient 7-of-12 from the field to score a game high 16 points. Brielle Rowley scored 11 and Bethany Justice ended with 10 to round out the double-digit scorers.

Emery equaled Grand’s entire scoring output from the three-point line alone despite shooting a pedestrian 22-percent from the perimeter. Jacobson converted twice from deep, while Aliya Lester scored all six of her points from the three-point line on two makes.

Tuesday’s win marks the fifth in the last six games for the Lady Spartans, running their overall season record to 6-3 and a 3-0 mark in Region 12 play. With the victory Emery remains the No. 1 ranked team in the latest RPI.

The turn around for the Lady Spartans will be fast as they return to the court Thursday night at home to meet the No. 11 ranked San Juan Broncos. It will mark the first meeting between the two teams since last year’s state tournament matchup that ended in favor of San Juan.
